Experiencing Depression

Dear Jasmine,

I am not really sure what to do, I take Anti-Depressants and see a Physiatrist but I really don’t feel anything. I seem happy but I really don’t feel it and I cry in hysterics and feel like crap some days and then others I am like don’t feel anything. What do you think is wrong?

Dear Aletheia,

I would be concern in knowing how long you have been taking Anti-Depressants because it doesn’t seem to be working very well for you if you are in fact taking them properly. I think your medication should take about 4-6 weeks before it takes full effect so if you have been taking it properly for longer then that and you still aren’t feeling the effects of it, I would suggest you let your doctor know right away. Not all medication is going to work for everyone, so if the one you are currently taking is not suitable for you, there are other types of Anti-Depressants your doctor could have you try to see if it will help you. Your doctor may even recommend a combination of Anti-Depressants to better suit you if that is necessary.

I am not a medical professional so I can’t tell you exactly why you may be depressed but I can let you know of some known reasons for depression. Your depression could be caused by a few things. Medically, it could be an imbalance of your hormones, which causes your brain not to transmit messages properly and thus causing depression. Have you experience any infections, trama, lack of proper nutrition, etc? Because that could also be a reason that you could explore. Stressful situation throughout your life time could also be a contributing factor. I would advise you to talk to your Physiatrist about this and try to see if you are able to pin point the reason behind your depression so you can better understand and manage it.

But I would suggest you do talk to your doctor first about your medication and the effects of it because you don’t want the ramifications of not taking the proper medication to make you even more depress.

Always here,
Jasmine
