Dear Jasmine,
I have recently rescued a Pit Bull from the road by our house. He is still a puppy, and the sweetest dog I have ever met. He is funny, cute, loveable? Everything you would want of a puppy. He is better than my Jack Russell that I have had for a year.
The problem is that my husband and I have 4 young boys, and my husband is worried about something happening to one of the kids. I think that he would be a great dog and all the research I have done says that it is the owners that make Pits mean, and that they are actually GREAT family dogs.
Because of my husbands fears I have put an ad out, but because of their reputation, I am having a hard time finding anyone to take him. My husband doesn’t want to keep him, and I don’t want to let him go to a kill shelter, (the non-kill shelters wont take pits because they are hard to adopt out) or to someone that will use him to fight. What should I do?
Thanks for your advice!

Dear Carolynn,
I think its great that you recused this dog! Sounds like you really care and love this dog, which is wonderful to hear. I think you may be able to keep your Pit Bull if you have a backyard where you can keep the dog in a fenced area so that your children will not be able to get near him without your supervision. I assume you have already discussed what makes the pit bull aggressive to your husband, I would give it one last attempt and perhaps show him some books and facts on it. That might just sway him to change his mind.
It is understandable for your husband to be concern about the safety of your children because it sounds like you have not had your Pit Bull for very long and even though your Pit Bull may seem loving now, your husband may be concern about its previous owners and what was taught to your Pit Bull and if it may be aggresive in some instances. So if your husband truly is still against it, even if you keeped him in a fenced area in your backyard or doesn’t want to take a risk with your Pit Bull even though you have tried to show him some facts. I would suggest that you find Pit Bull Recuse Websites and see if they are able to assist you and give you some more options as in what you should do with your Pit Bull to ensure that your dog is put in a good home and not killed or used for gaming.
Always here,
Jasmine
