The Workplace

Dear Jasmine,

I have this problem at work. I work in an office with about 15 people, whom 5 of them I work on a daily basis with. There is one person in particular that I can not stand. The list can go on about why it is, from the this person’s laziness at work, lack of consideration for others, etc. Every time I see this person, it annoys me a great deal and I have to work with this person every single day of the work week.

Sometimes I even dread coming to work because I don’t want to have to deal with this person. Please let me know how I can approach this because I really do enjoy my job minus this co-worker.

Yours Truly,
Katie J

Dear Katie,

Sounds like a long work day for you! I can totally relate to what you are saying because I think everyone has encountered this at some point in their working days.

Ways I think you should deal with it is, you should not like people like that get to you. Even though it is easier said then done, if you allow this person to annoy you all the time, you are essentially giving this person the power to control your mood at times because this person annoys you so much.

What I think may be helpful is that even though you have to work this person on a daily basis, you should try to limit your contact with him strictly to just work related issues. Then remember its important in any job enivorment to get along with everyone you work with, even if you don’t like them personally. Everyone is different and has their own way of doing things that not everyone can understand or get use to, but as long as your getting your work done, don’t let your co-worker consume too much of your time.

Just to gently ease into, find ways to relax, like perhaps take a break and for a walk if you are able to and get some fresh air. It will obviously take some time but think it over and hopefully you can start to tolerate your co-worker more over time. If not then write back and vent some more! Good luck!

Always here,
Jasmine
