Cutting Withdrawals

Dear Jasmine,

I used to cut myself for a year and a half. I did it addictively for a year. I have gotten help and I have stopped doing it for about 7 or 8 months now. I know that when you get addicted to something physically, you can get withdrawals. My question is if you were addicted to something like cutting yourself, can you still get withdrawals?

Thank you,
M

Dear M,

Typically I believe that people get withdrawals in the beginning, meaning the first few weeks or months of letting go of their addiction. I think that you are doing a wonderful job and you should commend yourself for what you have accomplished. You have given yourself a second chance in life and starting fresh. I wish you nothing but the best and hope that you will continue on this courageous journey.

Always here,
Jasmine
