Dear Jasmine,
Over the past few months, I have been depressed, diagnosed with depression, given medication for it, so on an so forth. Well the doctor told me since I am under the age of 18, thoughts of suicide would be a common side effect. I thought nothing of it. Well I got home that night, an the first thing I did was cut. I have been a cutter since I was 12 years old and I am currently 15.
Well, I guess that I just wanted someone to understand my pain and feelings, so I started cutting on my arms. Usually I cut on my legs just so that no one will notice. My best friend, who lives in my hometown, another state, yelled at me for cutting, and said I shouldn’t do it but when she has been a cutter for awhile. I have decreased on my cutting, I am not cutting that much at all anymore since I started getting help.
I would like to know how I can help my best friend because I do not want to lose her. She has kept me alive all these years, and I have tried to do the same, and so far, I have, but she keeps saying that she is going to kill herself an her life is miserable, etc. So far, all I have and can do is be there for her. I can’t talk to her parents because they don’t like me, and probably would think I am just lying about it. She doesn’t want her parents to find out. Please help before it becomes too late!
Thanks

Dear Benji,
I think her parents should know about this and if you truly want to help her, you should tell them. They will know its true once they see all the scars your friend has left all over her body. You really need to help yourself before you even try to help anyone else. It is nice of you to want to help your friend, but the truth is, how are you going to help her, if something bad happens to you because of the cutting? Would you want her to fall into the same scenario as you?
I would think not and I am glad you are trying to take steps to help your friend, but please remember that you need help too. If you haven’t already done so, you need to seek probably some professional help in order to stop yourself from hurting yourself. Remember, you are not only hurting yourself, but your family and even your friend.
Always here,
Jasmine
