Sexually Transitted Infection Denial

Dear Jasmine,

My boyfriend get poison ivy when it is in season but the last few months he has mentioned to me that it is on his private part. Then he said a few weeks ago he notices a small lump in the groin area but it went away. Well he called me yesterday and said that he got poison ivy again on his privates again. I actually believe he does not know what it is.

I am thinking he has genital herpes, which I have not had sex with him in awhile anyways. I know if I tell him he has herpes he will go in a frenzy and blow it off. Do you think that it could be herpes too? It seems to come out like once a month. Let me know what you think.

Thanks

Dear Bev,

I am just going to go on my gut feeling that this guy knows there is something wrong and is making up excuses to you. I am not a doctor but I think that it is pretty strange that this poison ivy is only situated on his privates. Even if you have not had sexual contact with him in awhile, I would strongly suggest that you get yourself tested just to be safe. I think this guy does know that something is wrong and he just doesn’t want to admit it to you, or maybe himself.

For his own benefit he should get himself checked, otherwise his situation will only get worse. I would suggest that you talk to him about it because if he did not get this prior and your not infected, it could indicate that he is engaging in other activities outside of your relationship. Be smart and get yourself tested before to keep yourself inform of the situation and if he refuses to get tested, you probably should not have sexual contact with him for your own safety.

Always here,
Jasmine
