Pet Trouble at Home

Dear Jasmine,

Last month I found a dog in the park wandering around by himself. I took him home with intentions of finding his owners. I live with my boyfriend and he was not thrilled with having the dog but agreed to keep him until we found his owners. Well it has been a month and we had no luck finding the owners.

During this time, the dog has caused numerous fights between me and my boyfriend and he wants the dog out. I have grown quite attached to this dog and would like to keep him rather then taking him to the pound and who knows what will happen to him there. My boyfriend refuses to keep the dog and insisted that it will make a mess all over the house. I told him that I would take the dog to get it trained and everything but he still won’t budge. What do you think I should do?

Dear Yolanda,

I think that it is important for you to remember that you did agree to only keep the dog until you found the owner and never agreed to keep the dog permanently. So I don’t think it is strange that your boyfriend is upset over the fact that the dog has been there for a month. It seems that your boyfriend really doesn’t want to have this dog and I think that you have to make a decision of how important keeping this dog is to you.

Instead of keeping this dog, I think you should try finding the dog a home. Perhaps post an ad giving the dog away to a nice family who would enjoy the dog. That way you know that this dog isn’t going to go to the pound and you and your boyfriend can return to the way things were before you found this dog.

Always here,
Jasmine
