Abusing Self

Dear Jasmine,

My fiancé and I have been together for 2 years. He does not hit me but he has a really bad temper. When he gets mad he throws, kicks, and bangs his head on the wall and it scares me. Should I be afraid of him? He has never been abusive to another woman before.

Dear Sonya,

Should you be afraid of him? I think the answer to that is yes. I strongly recommend that you do not marry this man until he gets the help he needs and is on the road to recovery. He may not have hit you or women he previously dated but he does have abusive behavior. This self-destructing behavior is not acceptable and he needs to seek treatment.

I think your marriage will definitely be in trouble if you do decide to marry him before he has a chance to get help for his problems. You will just be setting yourself for failure if you do marry him at this point. He needs to get help and he needs to get it now before he hurts himself any further or someone else.

Always here,
Jasmine
